Crazier - Eklutna

"Friendship is so weird... you just pick a human you've met
and you're like "Yup, I like this one." And you just do stuff with them."

I'm pretty sure this quote describes our friendship.  I took Ali's senior photos last fall, and decided I liked her.  Luckily for me the feeling was mutual! She's headed off on a new adventure to Hawaii THIS. WEEK. Last week, we decided that we needed to get together and have some shooting fun before we left! So we did.
Starting with an early-ish morning breakfast at Jitters, we drove out to Eklutna enveloped in fog. Which disappeared by the time we got there :( but it was still a beautiful rainy morning.
She was commanded to pick a song to set the mood.  The choice?
"Crazier" by Taylor Swift.  Which, if you're into that stuff, would be good background music for going through these photos.

All photos of me are taken by Ali :)

Then we were walking back towards the car for the next outfit change and I heard "OH I wanna go in the water! Let's go in the water!"
We went in the water.

Week 6/52 - You Are

when I can't find the words to say how much it hurts
You are the healing in my heart.
when all that I can see are broken memories
You are the light that's in the dark.

Rainy weekend of flashbacks and heartache.

Week 5/52 - Constant

I'm just a little bit afraid of where I'm goin
and it feels like a hurricane is blowin over
though I can't find the ground below,
I've lived enough to know
You're my constant.

Okay, I really don't like change, but I can't stop it
I'm movin forward anyways with the promise
You are the anchor for my soul
and that's all I need to know
You're my constant.

It's just a crazy time in a fast-moving life and nothing is certain.
Except for His ever-constant Fatherly love and protection.
So, I'll just hang out there and wait for the chaos to blow over - and if it never does, I'll just rest there permanently.

Took this photo on a blustery evening out at one of my top favorite places on earth, Eklutna Campground.

Carrie & Kamdon

Carrie is a dear friend of mine who is currently teaching English in China.  She came up here to to Alaska ( talk about long distance!) to visit her boyfriend Kamdon and his family for a couple weeks. I was blessed enough to be able to spend the weekend with her and her sweetheart and capture a few photos for the two of them.

She's from Vermont, he's from Fairbanks.  They met at a camp in a village in Alaska.
Watching them together gives you butterflies.  They're the perfect combination of differences and similarities that compliment each other.  We took these the morning before I flew out, around Kamdon's family's house.
Needless to say, I left Fairbanks with a full heart and beautiful memories.

Week 4/52 - Nothin sweeter than summertime

Hard to pick just one phrase from this song - you really need to listen to the whole thing.
Spent the weekend in Fairbanks, Alaska and spent some time with a dear friend on the Chena River where this was taken.  It worked out perfectly because we had just been listening to this song on the road and were humming it on our way down to the water.
These are the days I'm going to wish I could go back to.

she grew up on the side of the road
where the church bells ring, and strong love grows
she grew up good, she grew up slow
like American honey

steady as a preacher, free as a weed
couldn't wait to get going, but wasn't quite ready to leave
so innocent, pure and sweet
American honey

3/52 - Safe

oh no, my walls are gonna break
so close - it's more than I can take
I'm so tired of turning and running away
when love just isn't safe.

This is one of those turn it up and sing at the top of your lungs with the windows down songs.
Especially on one of those days where you're extremely aware of how quickly and deeply you fall in love with people.
It's so, so scary and sometimes so, so painful.
And so out of your hands.

It's also a good time to remember that His love IS safe.  You can rest in it.
You can trust in it.  It is shelter.  It is consistent. It is powerful.

His love is worth the risk.

Traveled down to the Eagle River campground - which is full of memories - with a dear friend and relaxed and enjoyed the peace before snapping a few photos and reluctantly driving away from the  beauty.
