not so black and white

when I was little, I thought life was black and white. yes or no. left or right. if I finish my chores, I can play outside. when you say you love me, you do. strength equals success. if I'm your friend, I'm there for you. there's a good choice and a bad choice.

simple, right? not so much.

it took a few years, but I'm not so little anymore. sometimes I run into a maybe. the fork in the road just leads back to the same winding path. loving is harder than saying three words. the strongest people get knocked down and need help. friends bow out. the feelings don't disappear when you say "goodbye." you're faced with two perfectly good choices (i.e., lunch, or a new shirt.)

exhausting. confusing.
but.

in a world full of grey, I am grateful for the things that ARE black and white. we are never alone. we are never beyond help and healing.
God is the same love and power yesterday, today, and forever.

thanks for reading. now please enjoy the photos! these were taken somewhere in southern California. Anna kindly got up early in the morning so we could catch the softer sunlight, and I could not have asked for a more effortlessly lovely muse for the pictures in my head.

also pictured: Tyler the dog.
